Places to Donate Cars in Logan

Got an old car hanging around that you just don’t know what to do with? Can you get more money out of it as scrap metal than a vehicle? Why not donate it? There are many organizations that take used cars and auction them off to help support the unfortunate and the suffering of Utah and all over the nation. It may seem that here in Logan there’s nothing we can do and nowhere to contact because we’re so far away from Salt Lake City, but it’s not true. Most places will provide free towing for your vehicle, even way up here in the great, white north. If you want to help, here are a few places to look into.

1. Habitat for Humanity:

Turn that car into a house, not literally. Habitat for Humanity has been building homes for unfortunate people for many years. Your car donation will be turned into money used to build homes for Utah families in Utah communities. If you want to donate to this organization there are several qualifications for your vehicle. First, it must be a whole vehicle, meaning that it can’t be missing an engine or fenders. Also, it must have a clear title in your name, as required by the state of Utah. They accept all types of vehicles from cars to RVs and farm equipment. The vehicle doesn’t have to be running, however if it costs more to tow it than to sell it, they may be unable to accept your donation. A benefit of the donation is that it is also tax deductible, but it is advisable to check with your tax preparer in order to get the right information for your taxes.

If you’re interested in donating it’s very simple. You can give them a call at 1-877-277-HFHI (4344) or simply log on to www.habitat.org/carsforhomes. You will be required to provide information about your vehicle like the make, model, and year, also the VIN number, condition of the car and correct mileage. If the vehicle is accepted, Habitat for Humanity will send a tow truck to tow the vehicle away. The vehicle will be sold at auction and all donators will receive a thank you letter for your donation, which may also be used as a record for tax purposes. It’s that easy!

2. Utah Council of the Blind:

The Utah Council of the Blind offers transportation, readers, scholarships, peer counseling, networking, educational seminars, and programs to help make the blind of Utah independent, contributing members of their communities. A donation to them would benefit people locally in Utah. The Utah Council for the Blind operates their donations through Donate Car . This group handles car donation for charities all over , but services The Utah Council of the Blind locally. Donations do require a clear title in the name of the donator. Also, there is a limit on non-running vehicles. If the vehicle will cost more to tow than to auction, it will not be accepted. They accept all types of vehicles for donation.

Donation is easy. You can start the application online at www.donatecarusa.com and input your contact information. The rest of the application must be done over the phone for legal reasons. After you fill out your contact information, a representative will contact you within 48 hours. If are not contacted you may call them at 1-800-269-6814. Once the information is processed they will make an appointment for your car to be towed. Give it a try!

Car donation can help people all around the country, not just in Utah. Don’t, however, feel that because we are so far away we can’t be a part of it. So, instead of using your car as a lawn ornament or crushing it into scrap metal, give these charities a call and help someone in need.
