Pot Racks- an Item I Can’t Live Without

I began searching for a pot rack not too long after I moved into my house. I live in an 1895 farmhouse, and although the kitchen was the meeting center of these type houses, they often did not have as many kitchen gadgets as we do now. Consequently, there is very little cabinet space, and I needed somewhere to put my pots and pans.

I began searching online for a pot rack, but I was disappointed. All of them seemed to fall within one of two styles. Both styles were round or half-round, and they either hung from the ceiling or from the wall. They were usually brass or copper, and had one single hook per pot. As useful as these were, they were not what I was looking for. I wanted something a little more unique.

One day I was searching on Ebay, and I came across the perfect pot rack for me. It was flat, instead of round, and it looked like a mini French wrought iron gate with scrollwork. At the bottom, there was a bar that the hooks hung on, and each hook could hold two pans, one on each side of the rack. I bid on it, and I was thrilled when I won. I waited anxiously for it over the next week.

While I was waiting for it to arrive, I realized that I didn’t know where I was going to put it. I had already figured out where to put a wall rack, but not a hanging one, and although it was a different style, it was still a hanging style pot rack. I decided to wait until it got here before I finalized any plans. When it arrived, I knew immediately where the perfect place would be. I have a bar between my kitchen and dining room, but because of some vents, it was never very useable. Instead, it just sat there looking empty and naked. I hung the pot rack in the space above, and it is still there to this day. Now the pot rack serves the added purpose of being an artistic divider between the two rooms.

I finally have a place to put my pots and pans, and I have realized that no matter where I might live in the future, I want to have a pot rack there. When I was searching, there were not many styles, but now, there are a lot of different choices. You can get ones that hold cookbooks or condiments, or even a lighted pot rack. They make a large professional style kitchen look more friendly, because it makes it seem lived in, and they make a small cramped kitchen more functional. We are looking at a move in the near future, and I will definitely be taking my pot rack with me.
