Preparing to Wallpaper

If you are planning on doing your own wallpapering, then you should know that you will absolutely want to know how to prepare the room before you start. Wallpapering is actually not that difficult of a process, and as long as you know the following, you should be okay.

Preparing the wall is the first step that you have to take before you do anything else, and basically in regards to this matter in particular, there are two important steps that you should take before you begin to hang with wallpaper. The first step before anything else is to read the manufacturer’s instructions on the products that you will be using, and the second is to properly prepare the walls that are going to be wallpapered. Preparing the walls includes removing any type of wall hangings and stripping off the old wallpaper if necessary. The more time that you spend on preparing the walls, the more satisfactory the overall results will be in the end.

You also need to remember to turn off the electricity before you begin, and any mildew should be removed with a mixture of two cups of household bleach per gallon of water; after the wall is dry, it should be primed with a good quality stain killer or primer.

Determining the amount of wallpaper required is also an incredibly important step, because you do not want to end up not buying enough paper, and at the same time you do not want to end up using more paper than you need either. In order to determine the amount of paper that you will need, you need to first measure the height of the wall from the top of the baseboard to the ceiling or molding, and then you need to measure the length of each wall, and then you need to add the lengths of all of the walls together, and find the total number of square feet by multiplying the wall height by the total number of square feet to be covered by wallpaper.

You also want to know that wallpaper is usually packaged in single or double rolls, and in order to find the number of double rolls that you will need, you need to divide the number of single rolls by two, and in order to find the number of triple rolls that you will need, you need to divide by three.

It is important to know that wallpapering does not have to be that hard of a task, and so you can do it yourself and it can turn out properly, but you just need to take the proper time and consideration so that you can learn about the basics and you will understand what you are supposed to be doing. After all, you can only do something really well when you know about the subject in general.
