Prevent Your Daughter from Becoming a Teenage Mother
Some people seem to think that many unwed mothers come from poor families, so they must have low moral standards. Yet others believe that it is because of poor mother-daughter relationships or stress. But as shocking as it may seem there are those that choose to become pregnant on propose. Mostly because they want to fill some need for affection that they are not getting at home. Or possibly they are so afraid of losing their boyfriend that they feel by having a baby they would be able to keep him.
But research has proven a lot of these so called theories wrong. Those that come from poor families indeed do have moral standards. It really has nothing to do with whether a person is rich or poor both are affected by teenage pregnancy. Many young teenagers just seem to get caught up in the emotions. They have no real desire to become pregnant but because of their careless actions it does happen. Do you realize that many teenagers begin having sex as young as 14?
Some feel that by providing the proper education such as preventive family planning services, and making abortion services and contraceptives accessible will help the problem. But by doing this in my opinion you are just sanctioning their permissive actions. It is true that many parents do not discuss this topic with their children, but unfortunately sex education fails to get the key point across. A lot of pregnancies unfortunately do happen because of ignorance.
As parents it is your duty to give your children accurate information about sex and reproduction even before they become teenagers. Of course just having knowledge will not prevent your teen from becoming pregnant. Teenagers feel that they just want to enjoy the moment and hope that nothing happens. As parents you want to stress to your children the consequences of their actions.
Help them to understand why they really should wait until they are in love before having sex. This topic is a very important one. So many children are being abandoned or not cared for properly because of this. Just take the time to talk to your children and really make them understand.
