Prevention of Refrigerator Odors
1. Maintain a container of fresh baking soda towards the back area of the refrigerator with the lid off. Fresh baking soda works miracles for swallowing up horrible smells. A lemon wedge also does this. Make certain to change it every week for prevention of refrigerator odors.
2. Make certain that all packets and containers are shut where possible, and to enclose free standing food, such as fruits and vegetables, in aluminum foil or plastic wrap.

9. Did you know that your refrigerator can get odors from mold, mildew and bacteria growing in it? You have to make sure that the temperature is kept at the proper setting. This will keep food from spoiling and the moisture in the refrigerator from growing nasty things. You cannot have prevention of bad odors if the temperature isn’t set right. Remember that the warm air from summer and the higher heat temperatures can affect your temperature settings. Use a thermometer from time to time to make sure that your refrigerator is really at the right cooling setting.
10. Double wrap highly smelly foods such as fish, spicy chili, and cheese sauces and so on. The odors from these foods are great when you’re hungry and the food is hot. But once they are cold the odor can get stronger and really take over your refrigerator. Other bad things for causing odors in the refrigerator are onions, garlic and peppers. All of these items need to be put in a plastic baggie and then sealed in a plastic container. Otherwise you’re going to have a blend of really bad odors every time you open the refrigerator.
