Product Comparison: Good Seasons and Newman’s Own Olive Oil Dressing

Good Seasons makes a superb bottled Italian dressing that I believe to be the best tasting Italian Vinaigrette on the market. The only thing better would be to make it yourself, using your own fresh ingredients. It is made with Extra Virgin Olive Oil, sweet peppers and exotic oregano. The taste is full-bodied robust and tangy and is everything I would expect in Italian dressing. One serving, which is 2 tablespoons, is 60 calories. It has zero cholesterol and zero trans fat, although 40 of those 60 calories per serving are fat calories.

Compared To Newman’s Own Olive Oil & Vinegar Dressing

Until I tried Good Seasons Italian Vinaigrette With Extra Virgin Olive Oil, I would have ranked Newman’s Own Olive Oil & Vinegar Dressing as the best Italian dressing on the market. I still believe Newman’s Own Olive Oil & Vinegar Dressing to be a superior salad dressing for anyone who loves Italian dressing and olive oil based dressings, however The Good Seasons bottled version tastes better. Newman’s held what I believe to be the #1 spot for more than 2 decades, so it is amazing that it took this long for a company to make something I consider better tasting.

The Newman’s Own Olive Oil & Vinegar Dressing has 150 calories per serving size (2 tablespoons), which is more than twice the calories of the Good Seasons. Apparently the Good Seasons having less calories doesn’t effect the taste because in my opinion, Good Seasons Italian Vinaigrette With Extra Virgin Olive Oil tastes better than Newman’s Own Olive Oil & Vinegar Dressing. The Good Seasons has 4.5 g total fat and the Newman’s has 16 g total fat. The Good seasons has ZERO saturated fat and the Newman’s has 2.5 g saturated fat. The Good Seasons has 300 mg of sodium per serving and Newman’s has 150 mg sodium per serving. Good Seasons has 3 g of carbs and Newman’s has 1 gram of carbs.

Good Seasons Italian Vinaigrette With Extra Virgin Olive Oil comes in only one size, and that size is 14 ounces. The bottle is plastic and easy to handle and attractive in appearance. I like seeing all the spices too. The Newman’s Own Olive Oil & Vinegar Dressing comes in at least two sizes 8 ounces, 16 ounces, and I believe I have seen 32 ounce size bottles in the past too. I like that Newman’s own has more choices in bottle size, but I prefer the Good Seasons plastic bottle over the Newman’s own glass bottle, especially if kids are passing salad dressing bottles across the kitchen table.
