Product Review: Bush Mission Point Collection Desk

I was in need of a solution for my professional office desk. Knowing that desks get beat up from daily use, I did not want to spend hundreds of dollars on the purchase. I looked at many stores before I landed at Staples office supply store. They had many affordable desk options, but this one in particular stood out from the rest. I felt it would work well for my situation and purchased the desk for $250.

The style of the Bush Mission Point desk is what sold me on it initially. It offers sleek, clean lines with style. The shape offers a lot of surface space which comes in very handy in a professional atmosphere.

There is a lot of storage with this piece. It has one large drawer perfect for the stapler, pens and small items. Below that there is a generous sized file drawer. Both have quality rollers so they work smooth and silently. On the other end of the desk is a swing door which opens to a wide open storage space. This proved to be a negative of the desk. It is too vast a space for me to fill efficiently. Some adjustable shelves would have been a nice addition.

The coloring of the piece is fabulous. It is a light teak color which blends with any decor you may have. The edges have begun to wear with time, but that is with 8 hours use daily. The material does scratch easily, so I’ve learned to not slide anything around. In a small way this has become a positive. It has forced me to keep objects off the desk and put them away in their proper homes. The pull handles on the door and drawers are made of a light aluminum. They look like cast iron to the eye, which lends the desk to an expensive feel.

There is a major design flaw in this desk, however. Where the two pieces meet in the middle, there is a lack of support. You need to be really careful how much weight is placed on this area. For me this has been a problem, due to my arrangement. This is the exact area I keep my monitor. This set up has created a slight bowing in the non supported desktop. I will have to keep an eye on this to make sure it does not get any worse.

I do feel that this was a good purchase for the money. I did not want to spend a fortune on my purchase because of all the use it would get. I would rather use this one until the end of it’s days, and get a new unit at that point. After a year with the desk, I did purchase the matching hutch. I have been very pleased with that. It offers a little more storage. The lateral file was something else that I did pick up along the way. I have had some problems with the drawers on that opening on their own occasionally, but if that is their only flaw then I will deal with it.

If I am able to prolong the life of this desk, there is a whole collection of matching office furniture that goes with it. There is a credenza, bookshelf and even coffee table available from Bush. They all feature the same materials and clean lined style. With multiple pieces of this set together, you will achieve a very custom look to your home or business office.
