Product Review: Four Paws Keep Off! Indoor and Outdoor Dog & Cat Repellent
Four Paws keep off! can be used indoors or outdoors as a back up training aid for cats and dogs who are exhibiting undesirable traits around the home. But it is not a replacement training aid for your pets. This is clearly stated on the bottle.
Before use, you must shake the bottle and then test it on a small area first before spraying it onto rugs, carpets, fabrics or plastics. The reason for this is because Four paws keep off! may stain or soften some plastics and fabrics. After testing, spray the product onto the desired area until it has been lightly moistened. The product suggests using this every day until the bad habit has been broken.
Four paws keep off! can also be used to prevent your pets from causing problems in flowerbeds, shrubbery and fences. The product clearly states what it cannot do. It says: “This product is not likely to break the established urination patterns of dogs unless it is used as a training aid”.
This product does not take away the bad habits of pets unless it is used consistently each day. It also runs out very quickly, unless you only have a very small area that needs to be protected from your pets’ claws. It seems to work for the first day or so because you will notice your cat or dog sniffing the area where the product has been sprayed and then they will walk away from it without scratching. But it does not mean that they will be deterred from returning to that spot once the product has worn off, which is a limitation of this product.
In order to break pets of their bad habits, such as scratching, it is still necessary to use water bottles to spray pets with. They seem to respond better to that than they do to Four paws keep off!
