Product Review: Patton Power Utility Heater Model PUH9000

In a previous article, I expressed my extreme displeasure with the performance of my Vornado Heater. Since the heater was still running, I donated it to a friend, and decided to go on a quest to find a heater that would satisfy my needs, without breaking my budget. I went to Wal-Mart, where, conveniently enough, they had all their heaters located on a wall with an electrical outlet. Over the course of about an hour, I tested approximately ten heaters, and ended up purchasing two different ones. One of those was the Patton Power Utility Heater, Model PUH9000. I will tell you why this little heater passed my tests with flying colors, and as a result, came home with me for further rigorous testing!

1. Sturdy construction.

This heater has very sturdy construction and feels solid without being too heavy or bulky. It has durable all metal housing, which is safe. It has rugged protective side panels. It also has a nice, thick plastic carrying handle, so you can move it around the room without getting your fingers near anything hot.

2. Powerful.

It has 1500 watts of instant focused heat. This is powerful heat for the toughest heating environments. This means, that when you turn it on, it gives you a full blast of hot air right away. No waiting for heating coils or slow fans to warm up. That is what I like, to just be blasted with heat. When I’m cold, I’m really cold, and nothing feels better than having the equivalent of a huge hair dryer blowing hot air on my cold body.

3. Safety.

This unit has, as most other heaters have as well, a tip-over safety protection. This means that the heater automatically turns off if it tips over accidentally. This is a super feature to have when you have kids and pets running around. This also has an auto safety shut-off, which shuts the heater off automatically in the event of an overheat type of situation. This is also protected with a back-up overheat fuse, which provides additional overheat protection. It has a grounded 3-prong plug. I was impressed with this, in particular, because you do not see this feature on a lot of heaters. This meant that they went the extra mile for safety.

4. Brand name.

The Patton brand is actually manufactured by the Holmes company, which is a big name in heaters. They have over 20 years of experience developing, engineering and testing heaters. I have used heaters by Holmes in the past, and my family has, too, and we feel that it is a brand name that we can have trust and confidence in.

5. Price.

I am quite frugal, and therefore, getting the most for my money is always very important for me. I tested all the heaters I was interested in first, without looking at the price, and then picked my favorites according to features. When it came to a tie, I then looked at price. This heater beat out another one that was similar because it was about $10 cheaper. I bought this at Wal-Mart for around $29 plus tax. That price is heard to beat anywhere!

I would recommend the Patton Power Utility Heater Model PUH9000 to anyone. It is rugged, durable, and safe. It does what it is supposed to, simply heats, without a lot of fuss. The switches are user friendly and easy to navigate. The heat it puts off is a comforting warm blast. The price can’t be beat for what you get. Next time you are in the market for a great little heater that will simply do its job and won’t break the bank, give the Patton a try.
