Product Review: Starbucks Insulated Coffee Mug

I love coffee, and the first thing I do every morning is brew a pot. Then I read my email and spend some time on my laptop, with my cup of Jo right by my side. Unless I use an insulated coffee mug, my coffee always gets cold much sooner than I’d like. When it’s time to walk the kids to the bus stop, I carry my coffee with me, and it still remains hot, even when it’s freezing outside.

My husband takes coffee with him to work every morning, and he also uses insulated mugs. We have quite a collection of them in the kitchen cabinets, but my favorite is by far made by Starbucks. I don’t know how much this mug costs, because our daughter left it at our home before she moved out of state. I believe they run around $20.00, which is expensive, but I’ve had it with cheap travel mugs that leak. If this prevents me from staining one sweater, it’s paif for itself!

This mug is very attractive, in a cobalt blue color with a black lid and handle. The cap screws on securely, and the spout has a tight fitting snap down popper-top, that truly makes this drip proof. It measures 7.5″ high, and the mouth is exactly 3″ in diameter. The handle sticks out from the cup quite far, so this would not work well in a backpack or other such bag that has a mesh cup holder. Since the mug tapers inward at the center point, I find it comfortable to hold without the handle. I love the rubber slip proof base as well. This mug is very attractive and smartly designed.

This mug does not have a stainless interior, it looks like plastic, but it keeps my coffee hot for an incredible length of time. The seal on the lid is amazing! I don’t have many travel mugs that are leak proof, but this one definitely is. for the sake of this review, I took my mug full of coffee to the sink, snapped down the stopper, and shook it upside down. NO coffee came out, not even a drip. My only problem is screwing on the lid so that the opening is on the proper side so that I can use the mug with my right hand. It’s difficult to get it in just the right position.

Have you ever purchased travel mugs that were not dishwasher proof? I have, and now that is something that I look for before making a purchase. I have to be able to put them in my dishwasher! Not a concern with this Starbucks model, it washes great and comes out clean with no soapy film or residue on the inside.

I brewed my coffee at 5:30 this morning, and I’ve had the same cup sitting next to me for nearly two hours, and my coffee is still hot. That is the kind of performance I want out of a travel mug! It doesn’t drip, it’s easy to clean and it keeps my coffee hot for hours! This is a great travel mug. If you like to travel with coffee, tea, or hot chocolate, consider the Starbucks mugs, I’ve been very pleased.
