Product Review: The Hoover Windtunnel 12 Amp Bagless Vacuum

When a person has to do chores the best offerings from technology make chores not seem like chores. When it came my turn to vacuum the house I kept that thought in mind as I pulled out the Hoover Windtunnel 12 Amp Bagless Vacuum . Here is my evaluation of the product and experience it provided.

The product was priced very competitive with the other choices on the Lowe’s shelf, several of which had already been tested at our home and failed. However, something that set this Hoover model apart was that it actually came with 2 vacuums not just one. We not only got the large main product but also a smaller, electrically charged one for smaller jobs called the: Slider.

The features on the vacuum consists of the regular fare of things. A hose with some attachments comes with it, but there is also an attachment that is supposed to work more akin to a hand held vacuum, though it is really just a slightly more fancy hose attachment thing. The front of the machine has a twin chamber area with one side being the spot for dirt collection and the other a filter. Below the dirt chambers is a two light system telling you when the filter is dirty or not and there is s switch asking one if they would like to use the special “dirt detector” feature, which is just some magic mumbo jumbo. There is a cheap plastic adjuster handle near the base of the vacuum for lower the bristles for hardwood floors or carpet; it is a pain to move sometimes. The cord on the back is wound just like most vacuums and is a hassle to deal with. The vacuum never seems to want to snap into the angle or position you want it to when you are actually using it, however when you are just trying to wrap up the cord it wants to lay right down and roll away.

The Hoover vacuum is easy to clean out, however, after that fact come all of the other facts one could associate with a heavy, bulky piece of equipment. This machine seems to have a mind of its own with a self pulling system that almost wants to drag the handle away from you. My particular Hoover wanted not only to run away from me, but to suck up the power cords to the video game controllers; several were destroyed. This machine does have a lot of power! I could not imagine the average housewife enjoying using it, however, unless the average housewife is also built like a football player. The Hoover Windtunnel 12 Amp Bagless model I have does not make cleaning easier. It tries to eat everything I do not want to vaccuum and is an exercise in strength.

The Slider, the smaller, less noisy of the two was what I ended up cleaning my house with. The small vacuum picked up dirt and such just as well as the big powerful sucker. However, like most of these types of cleaners it was broken after a couple of weeks. Using the machine was not worth the smell you would get, since hair and such gets clogged and wrapped around the bristles easily. Eventually, even after maintenance and cleaning the Slider just quit turning on altogether.

So, if you are a fan of loud power tools or want to feel like you have one mean powerful vacuum, then maybe the Hoover Windtunnel 12 amp Bagless is for you. However, if you have a house full of corners and knick knacks you don’t want damaged then the control on this vacuum is too erratic and difficult to maintain. Also, any company in the business of vacuum technology should explore only cordless machines in my opinion.
