Waverly, Ohio is a small town with a large appetite. The town is loaded with fast food restaurants up and down the main drag where the highway runs through on its way from one large city to another. This however is not to say there isn’t any quality dining in the area. It is really quite the opposite.
The Emmitt House is notorious for its delicious cooking, delightful d�©cor and colorful history. James Emmitt, possibly the first millionaire of the Scioto Valley, built the Emmitt House in 1861 as a hotel. It is now renovated to the 1800 era, and each of the six dining rooms has its own flavor. The restaurant serves between 250 to 300 customers on their busiest days. They serve a wide variety of foods, from salads, pasta and pork to burgers, steaks, fish and prime rib. There are also fine wines to choose from. Reservations are suggested but not required. All major credit cards are accepted.
The Emmitt House also has opened the Canal Pub which sits right next door, but is accessible from the restaurant itself. Food orders can be brought to you if desired. Another surprising plus is the Baskin Robins Ice Cream shop. This was added after a probationary period proving that the small town of Waverly could support the expensive luxuries.

The Lake White Club also is an historic trip in time. The huge timbers you see forming the walls of the foyer are the original walls of a log cabin built in the mid-1820’s. Lake White itself is not a natural occurrence, but rather a man-made lake that was started in January 3, 1935 and named after Governor White. Residential zoning dictates that homes must be white with red roofs. This supplies visitors with a nice scenic view to enjoy with their dinner.
Steaks and fried chicken is their specialty, but only the beginning of the menu. Meals can cost up to $25 each, but wine is only available in the bar section. Smoking is permitted, but only in certain seating sections. Reservations are suggested.

El Charro’s specialty is a variety of steaks and beef cuts, and usual Mexican cuisine spices up the menu. Meal price varies during times of day, but the meal portions are well worth the money. El Charro is the only Mexican restaurant in Waverly. In fact, it is the only Mexican restaurant in Pike County, excluding Taco Bell in Piketon.
