Quick Decoupage Projects You Can Do Now

Decoupage glue isn’t expensive – three or four bucks for a jar – but it will do plenty of projects and they’ll turn out great every time! Decoupage is just a fancy name for gluing paper or fabric onto various surfaces, such as wood, metal, plastic or other fabrics. Generally, it requires you to simply spread a little of the glue onto the intended surface, position the paper or fabric piece, then paint the top of the fabric or paper with the glue once again. For some projects a light sanding of the second layer, with steel wool, may be needed.

There are many quick and easy decoupage projects you can do, once you have the glue. If you don’t have the special glue, or can’t find it, simply water down some ordinary white glue and you’ll achieve basically the same effect.

Cutting shapes from fabric that has images of horses, cartoon characters, or flowers is one of the easiest decoupage projects you can do. After you’ve cut your fabric images, decoupage them to walls for a unique look or just add them as a border. Or, decoupage the images to the fronts of cabinet doors, drawers, book cases, tables, vases or other surfaces.

Make your own plate collection by purchasing ordinary single plates from a dollar-theme store and decoupaging images to the center or edges of the plate. Set on a plate holder and start your own collection of cartoon character plates, map plates, bird plates or another theme.

Completely covering a picture frame in fabric is a unique and beautiful look. Some people find it easiest to cut the fabric into the shape of the picture frame, then lay it on the decoupaged frame before adding the second coat. Work with the fabric, pressing it onto the frame and working the corners to fit. Allow to dry for 24 hours before adding pictures and backing.

Decoupage a beautiful fabric or paper print onto a baby crib. The flat wood of the crib makes it easy to attach the image and the crib, when finished, will look like a one-of-a-kind model. Decoupage allows you to add lace to mirrors, fabric to doors, decorative papers to canisters, and more.

Since heat nor cold affect decoupage projects, use the technique to make decor for everything from toasters to crock pots to the handles of your Teflon utensils. Decoupage makes it easy to make the projects match your existing decor, since all you have to do is choose images and colors that currently exist in the room.

Quickly decoupage fabric onto wooden squares and attach them to door and window frames, hampers, mantles or bookcases. Or, glue lace pieces onto window panes for an elegant and frosted look.

Use soft steel wool to buff the decoupaged surface of the project when finished to give it a glow and eliminate any spots that look thick and whitish. You’ll find decoupage to be very easy to work with and a lot of fun.
