If the crack is large then you should use a concrete patch agent which expands when mixed with water. The concrete patch comes in different forms but is often sold in a powder for easy use. Before you add this agent to the crack you need to make sure that the crack is as dry as possible.

Now that you have cleaned and filled the crack you will need to add the concrete to cover the crack. There should only be a thin layer of concrete that is added to the crack. If an excess amount of concrete is over the crack you can get this off using a concrete spatula. The spatula is also great for smoothing out the concrete to create a much better repair job. If concrete is out of the question you can use paint but it probably will not look as good as using concrete or sealant.

Once the concrete, sealant, or paint is poured over the crack you should allow time for it to dry before using it.
