Quick Tips for Your Wedding Decor
After you find a good deal on lace choose a different type than the tablecloth lace and make your own wedding veil. Lay the fabric over a bridesmaid’s head and cut to fit, depending upon how long you want it. Use a fancy hair barrette that clips shut and insert it into the lace, just in the middle of the top of the head. This will hold the veil on and give it a little sparkle. It may be necessary to poke holes in the lace to insert the clip. After cutting and adjusting the veil and clip remove the clip and apply a no-fray fabric treatment to prevent the holes from getting larger. After drying, apply fabric glue to the hole areas and insert clip. Allow to dry. Use the fabric glue to add a quarter-inch velvet or lace trim to the perimeter of the veil. Add rhinestones or other jewels, if desired.
Make headbands for the bridesmaids by purchasing inexpensive plastic or wire headbands and wrapping them in velveteen or satin. Now use hot glue to apply silk flowers and leaves, strands of beads, lace or other notions. For bridesmaids with short hair purchase clip barrettes and do them in a similar manner, gluing on beads, rhinestones or other decorative touches. Purchase inexpensive shoes and add decorations to match gowns or headbands.
Decorate the tables by purchasing incandescent, gold or silver strands of beads and drape them all the way across the front of the tables. The beads are not costly and can normally be found in many varieties at a dollar store. Buy inexpensive plant containers and paint them with silver or gold-leafing paint. It dries quickly and although it may seem a bit expensive, a little goes a long way. In place of the gold flower vases, use clear ones but paint the edge of the dish with gold paint. Use silk flowers, leaves, reeds and other silks to make flower arrangements. Place one large one in the center of the table then smaller ones every couple of feet all the way down the table.
Have the most beautiful punch bowl ever by simply making an ice bowl to go in it. Use two metal or plastic bowls – one a bit smaller than the punch bowl itself, and the second bowl, a little smaller than the first. Fill the larger bowl a third full of water. Fill the smaller bowl almost full. Set the small bowl inside of the large one, now add flowers, beads, lace bows – whatever you desire – to the larger bowl. Place in the freezer until shortly before using. To remove, simply lift the smaller bowl out, then remove the ice bowl containing flowers and other decor. If you have trouble getting the smaller bowl out, slowly run hot water over it until it breaks loose. Place the ice bowl in the punch. Place flowers, fake wedding rings, or other things in the center of ice bowl, where the smaller bowl was upon freezing. The ice bowl will float in the punch, keeping it cool, and looking beautiful, for many hours.
Make invitations on your home printer in a jiffy. Tuck copies of pictures that have been taken of yourself and your fiancee then tuck them inside the invitation. Use gold glitter paint to enhance the cards and envelopes. Print the thank you notes with copies of pictures of the wedding.
You can even make the cake yourself. Craft stores now carry a large line of cake-making products like shaped pans, tiers, edible beads and dispensable frosting. Most of your wedding decor can be made by you if you have the time and the desire. Look at fabrics, crafts, flowers and more with an eye towards what you could make yourself. Or, see what they offer at bridal supplies stores and make something similar yourself. You’ll be surprised what all you can do with some glue, materials, and a little patience.
