Recycling Junk for Profit Using a Junkman or Junk Dealer, Part 1
What are the characteristics of a good junk dealer? I have found honesty, punctuality, trustworthiness, and reliability to be the major characteristics I am looking for when doing business with junk dealers.
Honesty if so important. An honest junk dealer will make a decent offer for what they are interested in buying. Before doing business with any junk dealer, it is important for you to have some idea of what the item is worth that you want to have hauled away. You can get a rough idea of its worth by calling a recycling place and asking the receptionist how much they pay for junk cars, scrap metal, aluminum cans, copper etc. They will be able to tell you because they have the numbers available right by the phone. This is their business and they know all about the numbers. Now you have to take into consideration the time involved in hauling the item, a rough estimate for the gas involved to haul it away, etc. Subtract these numbers from the price the recycling center pays to get a rough estimate of a fair price for selling your item to a junk dealer. A good junk dealer will give you a fair price. You want to make a fair price for selling and you want the junk dealer to make a fair profit for buying.
A good junk dealer will pay in cash for what he has bought. He will be getting his money back plus profit when he delivers it to the recycling center. They pay him immediately. And a good dealer will pay you in cash before he removes anything from your property.
A good junk dealer will tell you exactly when the item will be removed. The majority will remove it immediately after paying. This is the professional way. They realize you are selling because you want the time removed. A good junk dealer does not use your place as free storage for the item he has bought.
A good junk dealer treats you with respect and honors the fact that you will not want to part with some of the items you have that could be recycled. It is your choice what is available to sell and what isn’t.
A good junk dealer maintains his conduct without loosing his temper if you do not want to sell something he has asked about.
A good junk dealer removes the junk and leaves your property looking better than before. He cleans up after himself and picks up any junk that might fall off his truck as he leaves. A good junk dealer does not scatter the remainder of his lunch around for you to pick up after he leaves.
A good junk dealer will have references from your neighbors and friends on how he conducts his business. He will give you this information before he expects you to do business with him.
Doing business with a good junk dealer leaves you feeling good about the entire transaction. You will not hesitate to call him again if/when you have more items to sell.
Doing business with a good junk dealer gives you a person to contact throughout your life knowing he does business in a reliable and trustworthy manner. You know it is important to this particular good junk dealer to build up and maintain a good business reputation so people will want to do repeat business with him.
Selling junk these days can be very good for both you and the junk dealer. It can be profitable for you and good for the environment, too. Just be sure to find the Good junk dealer before doing business.
