Remove Mineral Deposits From the Washing Machine

Three years ago, my wife and I purchased a new washer and dryer when we bought our house. Within a short while, maybe six months, an ugly stain formed on the wash basket. Our oldest lived at home at the time and I blamed him for running who knows what through the machine.

I tried everything. We tried different brands of detergent, bleach, a prepackaged cleaning product from one of the larger detergent manufacturers. Nothing, and I mean nothing, would remove the faint orange stain.

During a period of unemployment and watching daytime television, I caught the latter part of a commercial for a product and made a mental note. As luck would have it, the network ran the commercial again just a few moments later. The product was CLR. I was familiar with the product as we had used it to clean the shower stalls at our last house when we moved.

I researched the product on the internet and found that CLR stood for Calcium, Lime, and Rust. I would never have suspected rust (or more likely Iron) was the culprit in the washer. It just so happened that we still had half a bottle in our garage from the move three years ago.

OK commercial voice-over guy, I’ll give it a try. As soon as I sprayed the inside of the machine, the orange stain dissolved and began to run. I ran the appliance at full load using a hot water temperature, empty of course, and was surprised at how clean it was. It looked like new.

I’m not one to pitch a product, but will give justice where justice is due. The product works.
