Review of 2006 Topps Football Cards

2006 Topps Football Cards are set to hit the market in July 2006. 2006 Topps Football Cards will come in hobby boxes containing 36 packs. Each pack will contain 12 cards. On average, every hobby box will contain 3 Special Edition Rookie Cards and 4 Parallel Cards. This basic set will also be one of the top sellers at retail stores such as Target, K-Mart, and Wal-Mart.

The base set of 2006 Topps Football Cards will be 385 total cards. The first 278 cards will be of current NFL players such as Tom Brady, Brett Favre, and Hines Ward. There will also be 75 rookie cards in the set including Reggie Bush, Matt Leinart, and Vince Young. The players will be featured in their new NFL uniforms for this set. The 385 card base set will also include 9 League Leader cards, 20 All-Pro Cards, and 3 Postseason Highlights cards.

The rookie cards in the set will be marked with a Special Edition logo. These fall only 3 per box, so it might be a challenge for the casual collector to collect all 75 rookies.

The parallel cards in 2006 Topps Football that fall 4 per box are as follows:
Gold Parallel
Black Parallel: sequentially numbered to 51
Platinum Parallel: sequentially numbered to 1

The following inserts will combine to be inserted 1 out of every 4 packs in 2006 Topps Football:
NFL 8306 – 10 card set
Own the Game – 30 card set
Hobby Masters – 10 card set
Ring of Honor – 1 card set

If you are looking to get some Game Used Memorabilia or Autograph Cards, then 2006 Topps Football might not be the set for you. They combine to be inserted 1 out of every 108 packs.

Autograph cards are inserted 1 out of every 225 packs. The autograph sets for 2006 Topps Football are:
2006 Signature Series
NFL 8306 Autographs – sequentially numbered to 50
NFL 8306 Dual Autographs – sequentially numbered to 25
Hobby Exclusive Ring of Honor Autographs
Topps Autographs

Game Used Memorabilia Cards are inserted 1 out of every 200 packs. The Game Used Memorabilia sets are as follows:
NFL 8306 Relics
All-Pro Relics
Super Tix Relics
Game Breakers
Super Tix Autographed Relics
Super Bowl XL Autographed Game Used Football Relics

2006 Topps Football also has the following cards randomly inserted:
Hall of Fame Tribute Inserts
Hall of Fame Autographs
Hall of game Tribute Cut Sigs

2006 Topps Football will be a popular set among casual collectors, but most of the serious collectors will probably stay away from this product. Although it will be fairly cheap, the odds of getting anything decent are far too high. Topps will advertise the cut signature cards as being in the product, but the odds of getting one are like winning the lottery. While 2006 Topps Football will be a cheap product to bust open, it might not be as worthwhile or as fun to open as other products.
