Review of Windex Clean & Shine Dry Microfiber Cloths

My local grocery store was closing out these Microfiber Cloths for some reason, and they were all marked down to $1 a box!! That was such a huge discount that I nearly bought them out, and after trying them out at home, I’m so glad I did!

These cloths come in a blue colored box, with Windex written in bold red letters across the front. There are 12 white multi-purpose cloths in one box. The measure a generous 11″ x 11″. Windex claims that, when used with Windex cleaner, these will be streak free, leave no lint behind, and contain no cleaning chemicals.

They can be usd on windows, mirrors, granite & marble countertops, appliances, electronics, sinks, tubs, stainless steel, wood, and leather.

* Durable & Reusable
* Millions of fibers lift and trap dirt, dust & liquid
* Dry, non-abrasive cloths
* According to S.C. Johnson Co. these are made with a synthetic fiber

My Experience

I have cleaned my home with microfiber cloths for years, but after several washings they were no longer as soft, and they didn’t clean as well. I couldn’t use any type of fabric softener with them (as it leaves residue), so the cloths had to be washed by hand. A real pain. The Windex cloths looked like they use the same technology as the microfiber cloths, but while the could be used again and again, they were also disposable. I don’t like our disposable society, but there are times when I will make sacrifices for the sake of cleanliness and efficiency.

We have a large picture window in our livingroom, with a couch in front of it. Our Silky Terrier thinks she owns that spot. Seriously, she spends most of her time looking out the window (she thinks she’s a watch dog!). While I appreciate her standing guard and keeping us all safe, her nose marks are continually all over the window. It looks gross. And those spots are not easy to clean off! I was really excited to see how the Windex Clean & Shine Dry Microfiber Cloths would clean my window. All I can say is “wow”. They did a fantastic job! They left no lint and cut right through the gunk to clean my windows to a spotless shine. (Spotless even when the sun shines through them!).

I hate cleaning windows, and no matter how hard I try, there are some streaks. Not with these cloths, they clean without leaving ANY streaks behind. And you know what? My picture glass window stayed clean longer after using the Windex cloths!

Although these are not as absorbent as the thick Viva paper towels I buy, they are adequate to get the job done. I use them to clean my countertops, stove top, sink, eye glasses, appliances and for dusting furniture. In fact, they clean my glasses so well, that I have a box of the cloths in my kitchen right near my eye glass cleaning spray. I don’t always use Windex brand cleaner with them, and I still get excellent results. Before I used these to clean my $500 pair of eye glasses, I did call the S.C. Johnson Company and asked them if these were safe for eye glasses. I was told that they have been tested on both glass and plastic lenses, and are completely safe. I have had absolutely NO scratches on my lenses from using these.

My old stand by for cleaning windows used to be a stash of cotton diapers. Even these 100% cotton diapers would leave some lint behind, so I prefer the Windex product above them as well.

Tbox says that these cloths can be used over and over, so I am planning on washing them out by hand and using them as long as I can before throwing them away. One cloth will usually last me through several weeks of cleaning.

These are a bit more expensive, about $3.79 for a box of 12, so watch for coupons, Windex often prints them in the Sunday paper inserts. If you are a paper towel user, these would probably save you money in the long run, and Windex claims that their cloths clean 50% better than paper towels do. I have no idea why these Microfiber Cloths didn’t sell well at my grocery store, because I love them.
