Review of the GE Touchlight
The touch light is oval shaped, measuring 7″ long and 4″ wide. It has a blue base, with a clear plastic cover. The bulb itself is a bright, long lasting fluorescent bulb measuring 5 1/2″. The touch light uses four AA batteries that fit snugly into the back compartment.
When I brought this home, I was very disappointed because it did not work properly. After the batteries were inserted, I pushed down the “on” side, but the light only remained on while I was holding it down. As soon as I let go and there was no pressure, the light would go off. I opened it up and repositioned the fluorescent bulb, thinking maybe it was loose. That didn’t work. So I called the toll free phone number listed on the back of the package. I spoke with a very friendly rep who told me that occasionally this happens because the products are mass produced. He offered to send me a new product, which arrived in one week. I am happy to report that the replacement Touch Light works great.
These can be used in numerous places in your home! Here are a few suggestions:
* Bedrooms
* Kitchens
* Basements
* Attics
* Closets
* Garages
* Near baby’s changing table
* Inside kitchen or bathroom cabinets
* When you have a power failure
**I should note that it should not be used in any wet or damp locations, and it is for indoor use only.
The lens has an “on” and “off” side. To turn the light on, you simply push the lens to the “on” side. The fluorescent light gives off a good deal of light, enough for both my husband and I to read by when we are camping. It also comes with two screws that allows you to mount it onto a wall, which is very handy. We were able to stick it up with the peel off sticky velcro, sinceI didn’t want to put any holes in our wall.
The bulb is a Satellite F4T5D, made by Sony, with a cool white color temperature. It uses 4 watts of energy, and is a low pressure, mercury vapor bulb that gives off a big, bright light. The light output is 95 lumens. Replacement bulbs cost $3.49, but they have an average life of 6000 hours, so they are very long lasting!
If you have an area in your home that needs more light, the GE Tough Light is an easy fix. It only costs $7.00, so it won’t break the bank. Put light where you need it with the GE Touch Light!
