Review of the Pledge Duster Plus

This weekend, something incredible happened. I decided to clean my apartment. Towards the end of cleaning, I couldn’t help but notice how dusty the shelves, desk and TV were. The coating of dust was pretty horrific for an allergy sufferer, and I knew something had to be done. Lucky for me (and my student budget) there was a coupon in the Sunday paper for the Pledge Duster Plus. I headed to the store and picked one up. It was on sale for $3, originally $5.50. Already we were off to a good start – the Duster Plus is surprisingly inexpensive.

The actual kit comes with a “multisurface pledge spray” a “handle” and “2 disposable dusters.” Be careful you don’t buy the refill pack (the packaging is very similar), because it will not come with the handle. The Duster Plus is basically a yellow handle with a foofy, fluffy fabric pad at the end. The neat thing about this contraption is the compartment at the bottom of the handle that holds a little spray bottle filled with Pledge (Multi-surface spray). The plastic handle has a bendable center, which you can press down so that the fabric pad can be squirted with the spray. Assembly was fairly simple. All you need to do is slide the fabric pad on to the two prongs of the handle. Be sure that the fuzzy side of the pad is facing down.

I spritzed and set off to dust my TV. I was instantly surprised and happy that this contraption wasn’t like the rags I had grown accustomed to using- Instead of just sweeping the dust off of the side, it picked them up. It seemed that the fuzz on the pad really pulled the dust in, preventing it from flying everywhere just to settle somewhere else.

Next, I headed to the shelves. I have several shelves along the length of my wall, and I am embarrassed to admit they probably hadn’t been dusted since I moved in a year ago. The Duster Plus easily maneuvered around the knickknacks and books, attracting dust particles. No bits of dust flew to the side. All in all, I say the Duster Plus is a valuable cleaning tool. While the spray doesn’t contribute much to the item’s success, It is a nice perk if you need a little extra oomph for your dusting. For the occasional duster, the Duster Plus is a nice addition to any cleaning kit. I say two thumbs up!
