Rice Dream original is made from filtered water, partially milled organic brown rice and safflower oil and sea salt. Rice Dream is made from only non-genetically modified brown rice. Rice Dream Enriched Original, tastes the same as Original, however is enriched with vitamins A, D & B12. It also has the same calcium as milk and is considered low fat and natural. The B 12 is particularly of significance to vegans. Vegans, unlike vegetarians, do not eat dairy products of any kind. The source of the calcium in Rice Dream is tricalcium phosphate, which is a nutrient found in phosphate rock and lime.

Rice Dream has a long shelf life, generally the date stamped is one year ahead from the day you purchase it. However once you open it, it needs to be refrigerated and it tastes freshest if used within 4 or 5 days. The manufacturer says it will stay fresh in the refrigerator for 7 – 10 days, however I find the 5 day mark to be the longest period time it retains its full freshness. Unopened but refrigerated Rice Dream stays fresh for approximately 45 days according to the manufacturer.

Whether you like your milk cold or warm, or used in casseroles or baked goods, you will be pleasantly surprised to discover this dairy-free alternative without the soy after taste. Also, because Rice Dream rice milk has a mildly sweet taste, if you are using this dairy free alternative in a recipe that calls for sugar, you may want to adjust the sugar to a lesser amount to compensate for the added sweetness of the rice milk.

Some of their soups contain soy milk, rather than rice milk, but they also make natural broths that contain no milk or milk alternatives at all.
