Rising Star: ‘Kyle XY’s’ Matt Dallas
As Matt Dallas began his career in low-budget and independent movies just last year, he surely had little idea how far his talent could carry him. Matt Dallas stars in this summer’s hit drama ‘Kyle XY’ on ABC family as a teenager who awakes in the forest with no memory of his past. Kyle is eventually taken in by a psychologist and through the course of the first few episodes, becomes a part of their family.
‘Kyle XY’ is a show that speaks to many audiences on several different levels. While it deals with some inappropriate issues for a younger audience, there are still many family values that are valued in the drama. Matt Dallas plays a teen that must discover who he is all over again while dark secrets from his past haunt his dreams. With extraordinary talents, he must learn to handle himself as well as learn to understand and relate to the new people in his life. The show demonstrates a little weak writing, and many drawn-out scenarios (mainly that of Kyle rediscovering his past), but what it lacks in plot, it makes up for in performance by the entire cast, especially the portrayal of Kyle by Matt Dallas.
Matt Dallas is a 23 year old actor who has proven himself as a proficient actor over the last year. It has only been a little over one year since he made his small, debut performance in ‘Way of the Vampire.’ Matt Dallas’ talent has clearly preceded him as he moved on to bigger performances until making he known on the premiere season of ‘Kyle XY’. What makes this young man such a great performer is his ability to make all his fans relate to his condition. Kyle is a boy who has no memory of his past, yet understands so much of the world that often he reveals how strange human behavior can be at times.
His extraordinary ability to calculate and create and his physical agility are nothing more than a fascination to him. These are no easy tasks for an actor, to realize what it must be like to completely lose your memory and start from scratch. It is for this reason that Matt Dallas pulls such a powerful performance. He does what most great actors achieve when they become the character that they are portraying. Perhaps the most amazing thing about Matt Dallas is the success he achieves at being a relaxing character to view. He plays his roles with ease and such elegance that is lacking in so much of television lately. If you are looking for an easy-viewing drama this summer that contains a lot of great life lessons, ‘Kyle XY’ is the way to go.
ABC Family took a great risk in accepting several unknowns in a usual-type drama. However, the performance of Matt Dallas, along with the remainder of the cast has been exceptional (especially for so many new-comers). Matt Dallas has a lot to offer as a performer, and we will continue to expect his performances to be nothing less than enthralling. Look for Matt Dallas in the new film ‘Indian’ and also in a most definite second season of ‘Kyle XY.’ The first season is nearing an end and airs on Mondays at 8/7C on ABC Family.
