Romantic Dining Options for Lesbian and Gay Travellers in Philadelphia

Food for thought, beer for cheap, and an idea of where to go in the City of Brotherly Love – LGBT friendly spots in and outside of the Gayborhood.

Today, we are going to look at places that serve up a portion of love along with there meals. Sometimes a meal isn’t about eating, sometimes its about sex and seduction. Here are 4 unique places that offer some intangible spice to any meal.

Ortlieb’s
847 North 3rd (3rd & Fairmount)
Norther Liberties

Ortlieb’s is housed in the former “brewery tavern” for the old Ortlieb’s brewery, which operated for over 100 years in Northern Liberties. The weathered wood- panelled bar has class and ambiance, with world-class jazz featured six nights a week. The food at Ortlieb’s is an eclectic mix of Cajun and traditional American fare. Inexpensive but incredible, Ortlieb’s menu is a gift to the gourmand on a budget. The recipient of numerous awards, including listed as one of the top 50 jazz clubs in the U.S. in Downbeat magazine, Ortlieb’s is listed as the jazz club in Philadelphia in Details magazine. A night at Ortlieb’s easily proves that jazz music is sexy.

Suede Lounge
120 Market Street (Front and Market)
Olde City

Classy joint decorated with chandeliers, suede-covered Ottomans, and a granite bar glowing in golden amber. Unspeakably beautiful bartenders pour pricey but delicious cocktails. Suede’s tapas menu is worthy of a taste, with several excellent fusion selections. A VIP lounge with funky retro shag carpeting, green sofas and white light boxes provides a nice secluded make-out area. And “making-out” happens often at Suede, the crowd is usually happy, randy, and ready to go. Make a club almost entirely in suede and pump hot sounds onto the dance floor, and be prepared for a strong sexual vibe.

Alma De Cuba
1623 Walnut Street (16th and Walnut)
Rittenhouse

Steven Starr’s venture into South American fusion is also one of the swankiest and fabulous joints on Walnut Street. Three dimly lit tiers offer plenty of seating space for a full meal, perfect for a classy and romantic meal. A plentiful list of drinks, including Sangria and Mohitios, are mixed superbly by an impeccable and well-groomed staff. The crowd is a bit greyer and less glamour then most of night world, but it’s definitely a scene and be-seen place. A great happy hour or dinner spot, a good first date joint.

Copabanana
344 South Street ( 3rd and South)
South Street/Bella Vista

Best happy hour/horny hour comboâÂ?¦. most likely to score a girl/boy for the evening (if you are into that sort of thing), and usually a pretty attractive one. The crowd is fetching, but it is definitely pricier than your average happy hours. Nightly specials can differ the cost, and the margaritas are to die for. Mexican plates are great, but watch mixing the tequila and nachos. Lively crowd, good tunes, and great stories. It’s location on South Street keeps it hoping with a cool mix of locals and tourists.

Woody’s
202 South 13th Street (13th & Chestnut)
Gayborhood

Philadelphia’s most famous gay bar, and one of the nation’s best known, Woody’s is two floors of boys, boys, and boys. Open forever, Woody’s is synonymous with gay Philadelphia. Its history and location make you question which came first, Woody’s or the gayborhood that surround it. The multi-bar, two floor establishment boasts a cafÃ?©, coffee bar, dance floor, internet lounge, and plenty of space for drama. Drawing a crowd every night, with karaoke, two-step dancing, all-age Wednesday, and drag shows, Woody’s should always be a stop for anyone with a go-go gay lifestyle.
