SPAM: Keeping it Out of Your Inbox

The convenience and ease of e-mail is what has made it so widely popular with consumers. These same features are what make it to popular with advertisers. Everyday millions of “Spam” emails are sent out. Spam is annoying at best and destructive at worst. By taking a few precautions you can help to slow or stop the tide of Spam to your in-box.

The first step is to be selective about who you give your email address out to. One of the ways advertiser get your e-mail address is by “phis-hing”. They will make a pop up the says, Congratulations you have won a free Apple computer or another alluring item and then they will ask for your e-mail address. This is just one of the ways that advertisers can get your email address. To stop the problem before it starts be sure to not give out your e-mail unless the person or company that you give it to can be trusted.

Another thing that you can do is to keep multpul e-mail addresses. Keeping more than one e-mail address is a good way to keep your important emails from getting lost in a pile of junk mail. Also keeping a separate e-mail for business is a good way to make sure you don’t miss any business opportunities.

Make sure that you are training your spam blocker. When you do get a spam email don’t just delete it. Make sure before you sent your spam too the trash that you mark it as Spam, or as junk mail. This will, over time, help spam blockers to recognize spam and send it strait to the junk mail folder.

If you follow these steps you can take control of your in-box and defeat Spam!
