Sample Complaint Letter to Landlord About Noise

Noisy neighbors can be annoying, disruptive, and downright hard to deal with. They can interfere with your sleeping, studying and daily life. If you are dealing with noise from neighbors, it is best to kindly ask them about it. If that doesn’t do the trick, the next step is to write a complaint letter to your landlord.

A complaint letter should be typed, if possible. It should also written using business letter format. If you’ve forgotten, please read, “How to Write a Business Letter.”

Dear Mr. Smith,

I am the tenant for Apartment #327a in the Highland Oaks apartment complex. I signed my lease 3 months ago in August. I looked at several other apartments, but chose this one because of the location and the fact that you have a storm shelter. My plan is to lease the apartment for at least three years, until I finish my degree.

However, recently, I have been disappointed in my choice. I am unhappy with the level of noise from neighbors in apartment #326b. This usually happens on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings and afternoons. They will play their music extremely loud, and occasionally scream and yell. I can handle infrequent loud noise, but this has become too much to handle. It has interfered with my sleeping habits, and contributed to migraine headaches.

I have kindly asked my neighbors about the noise level, but no change as occurred. This letter is my next step to resolve this issue.

I would like you to please enforce a rule that noise should be kept to a minimum. If that were to happen, I might renew my lease again next year. If not, I will definitely be seeking a new residence.

If you do resolve this problem, I will agree to not discuss this matter on any social media sites including Facebook and Twitter. I will also not leave a negative review on Yahoo and other sites.
