Sanctuary of Funerals Online

Paying honor to loved ones who have passed is becoming an increasing tradition by utilizing memorials on the web. In wake of Sept. 11, 2001 and ongoing war in the Middle East creating a web page in an age of chaos idealizes the need of continuity. Connecting with others who share similarities of tragedy can be comforting and alleviate feelings of separation.

Grieving family members who live in considerable travelling distance from each other have an outlet to reminisce, share photos, and video. Well-wishers can send condolences and sign the guest book. A grieving husband or wife can post their own sentimental thoughts to the deceased.

There are some web-hosting sites that charge a fee to set up a permanent memorial while others are free. The sites that charge weed out obscenities or anything that disrespects the memory of the person who is being acknowledged on the web page.

Internet based memorials are a wonderful outlet to remember those who have disappeared from life, but who hold key places in the hearts and minds of those left behind. It is a far cry from holding funerals online, but how long will it be before they to become a common occurrence?

There have been advertisements for funeral homes and ploys to sell caskets placed on many web pages who host memorials. This was insulting to a large number of people and the advertisements were eventually removed, but florists do post ads to boost their sales on the web memorial sites. Florists get away with this because flowers are used to make new memories from saying I’m sorry to Valentine’s day.

The transition to online funerals might seem like a convenience saving costly travelling expenses to attend if one lives far off and loss of wages if one has to take off work. It leaves one the option of viewing the funeral online whenever their schedule allows if the funeral is posted to the site and saved for future use.

Internet funerals could be watched at the exact time the funeral is held and email could be sent to the funeral home to give comfort to those attending in person. Perhaps an email sent could be printed out and read by the preacher conducting the funeral if someone wishes to speak and couldn’t be there.

An argument of web funerals would be that if someone deeply loved the deceased they would be present in the funeral home. They would never miss something as important as a loved ones funeral and the chance to see them one last time and say good bye in person.

The problem is life doesn’t stop and sometimes it doesn’t matter how bad you need to be at a funeral. Last minute circumstances might get in the way and keep you stranded.

Another problem with funerals appearing online is that grieving family members wouldn’t think about making the arrangements for them. They would be so heart broken just getting a proper funeral together would be difficult.

Some people do pre plan their own funerals. Internet funerals could be added on as a way to remember, honor, and celebrate the life of an individual.
