Sausalito Art Festival

For over 50 years, more than 1,200 artists from all over the world compete for one of the 270 slots in the Sausalito Art Festival, a showcase of community, well-known and emerging talent.”

Each Labor Day weekend, about 50,000 artists, art lovers and collectors flock to Marinship Park and The Army Corps of Engineers Bay Model Visitor Center to enjoy outdoor art exhibits, a sculpture garden, fine wine and gourmet food, live bands, and art activities for children.

Held every Labor Day since 1952, the Sausalito Art Festival showcases over 20,000 original works of contemporary art. This year’s festival includes Norbert L. Witkowski’ssculptures, Judy Koenig’s watercolors, oil paintings, Isabelle Posillico’s jewelry and more. On the more unique side are the papestries(handmade paper assemblages)by Andrea Tucker-Hody and the redwood burl vessels by Jerry and Deborah Kermode. It is hard to find a greater variety of talent and entertainment.

Gates open for general admission on Saturday, September 2 at 9 a.m. Red Legs kicks off the musical performances on the main stage at 11 a.m. Other musicians include The Lovemakers, John Corbett, Blood, Sweat & Tears and more. Shana Morrison, Incendio and others will entertain on the artist stage.

The waterfront setting continues to attract artists, as it has for almost 200 years. Weekend painters first arrived by sailboat from San Francisco in the early 1800s to paint maritime scenes, including sailboats and the bay. Sausalito, which is located just north of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge, lies on the Bay shoreline with breathtaking views, perfect inspiration for any artist.

Come for the inspired and affordable art, music, gourmet food, California scenery and history. Liberty Ships were built during World War II in Sausalito. Come to network with other artists. Many people come for the opportunity to meet privately with artists and even to commission originals. This festival has received multiple national awards for promoting independent artists in varying mediums.

The festival is a nonprofit fund raising event run by the Sausalito Art Festival Foundation, dedicated artists and community volunteers. Proceeds go to community art programs, art scholarships and the city of Sausalito’s chamber of commerce. The goal of the festival is to support the arts and the community of Sausalito.
