Scholarships for LGBT Students
Every aspect of our personality that makes us a unique individual can also mean more money when it comes to scholarship money for college. There are many financial sources of aid available to those who are lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender. Here is a good list of options to check out.
General Scholarships
SOLGA Kenneth W. Payne Student Prize Competition
–Award for anthropologists studying gay and/or lesbian topics
Criteria:
> Write an anthropology paper covering a gay or lesbian topic
> Cannot be longer than 40 pages
> Available to undergraduate and graduate students
Award: $400

LEAGUE at AT&T Foundation
-Awarded to those LGBT who maintained a high school GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and who actively participated in community service
Criteria:
> High School GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0
> Community Service Participation
> High School Seniors/Incoming Freshman
> Accepted to accredited U.S. Institution
Award: $1,500 – $2,500

Malyon-Smith Scholarship Award
–Awarded to graduate student researching psychological studies relevant to gays, lesbians, and bisexuals.
Criteria:
> Graduate Student
> Researching psychological topic relevant to gay, lesbian, and bisexual communities.
Award: Up to $1,000

Fund for Lesbian and Gay Scholarships (FLAGS)
–Awarded Based upon financial need and community involvement.

Regional Scholarships
Albuquerque Lesbian and Gay Chamber of Commerce Scholarships
–Available to gay and lesbian students attending specific colleges in Albuquerque, New Mexico
Criteria:
> Gay or lesbian undergrad student attending University of New Mexico or the Technical Vocation Institute of Albuquerque
> Resident of New Mexico for over one year
> Financial Need
> Academic Ability
> Community Involvement
Award: $1,000

Gill Foundation Scholarship
–Available to gay and lesbian students attending Colorado institutions.
Criteria:
> Gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender students attending a Colorado college
> Prior involvement in GLBT issues

GLSEN Connecticut Chapter
-Available to GLBT residents of Connecticut
Criteria:
> Between 16 and 21 years old
> Resident of Connecticut

-Available to residents of Contra Costa County, California

Jonathan Lax Scholarship Fund for Gay Men
–Awarded to gay men in the Philadelphia area
Criteria:
> Attend accredited college anywhere and live in the five county Philadelphia region, or Attend accredited college in the Philadelphia region.
Award: $5,000 – $20,000
Number of Awards: At least one $20,000 scholarship and multiple $5,000 scholarships
