Scholarships for New York Students and Institutions
Are you a college undergraduate or graduate student from New York enrolled in an approved post-secondary program? Or are you a student from another locale enrolling at a school in New York ? No matter which situation you fulfill, plenty of scholarships are available to help you pay for some, or all, of your expenses. These scholarships, as with most scholarships, range from very broad scholarships for all residents or students, while others may be very specific. In order to have your best chance at receiving scholarships, apply to as many different scholarships as you are qualified, particularly specific scholarships with a smaller competition pool.
General Scholarships
1. New York State Scholarships for Academic Excellence
-Award for outstanding New York state high school graduates
Criteria:
> Graduated from high school
> Enrolled full time in an approved post-secondary undergraduate program in a New York State post-secondary institution
> Be in good academic standing
> Citizen or qualifying non-citizen
> New York State resident
Award: $500-$1,500
Letter of Commendation
Number of Awards: 8,000
Notes:
Award recipients are selected based on student grade on regent exams
Scholarship renewable up to five years
One scholarship per each New York high school

2. Senator Patricia K. McGee Nursing Faculty Scholarship
-Award for RNs enrolling in a master’s program to qualify as nursing faculty
Criteria:
> Legal resident of New York for at least one year
> Citizen
> Licensed registered nurse in New York
> Acceptance into a master’s program for nursing at an accredited institution in New York State
> Complete and return service agreement in which an agreement is made to practice as nursing faculty in New York for four years.
Award: Up to $20,000 annually
Number of Awards: Awarded on competitive basis
Notes: Scholarship amount must be refunded if service agreement is not fulfilled
3. Memorial Scholarships
-Award for Families of Deceased Firefighters, Volunteer Firefighters, Police Officers, Peace Officers and Emergency Medical Service Workers who have died in the line of duty
Criteria:
> Acceptance to post-secondary institution New York State
> Study full-time in undergraduate programs
> Have a parent, spouse, or were a financial dependent of firefighter, police officer, peace officer, or EMS worker who died from injuries suffered in the line of duty in the state of New York
Award: Tuition and educational expenses, including room and board
Number of Awards: Varies
Notes: Award covers 4 and 5 year, full time undergraduate programs
4. Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship
-Awarded to one student from every school in New York for study in state
Criteria:
> Attend a New York State post-secondary institution
> Maintain full-time status
> Maintain a B cumulative average
> Complete studies within five years of high school graduation
Award: $1,000 per year for four years
Number of Awards: One award for every private and public high school in New York State

5. NYS World Trade Center Memorial Scholarship
Guarantees college education access to the families and financial dependants of victims who died or were severely injured in September, 11th terrorist attacks and/or rescue and recovery.
Criteria:
> Attend a New York State post-secondary institution or be a New York State resident attending post-secondary school elsewhere
> Victim of 9/11 attacks or family or financial dependent of victim of 9/11 attacks
Award: Covers up to four years of undergraduate studies
Number of Awards: As many as needed
