Services Provided by Niagara Educational Treatment Center
The Niagara Educational Treatment Center deals with children, adults, and other community members that are either hindered by a physical, occupational, or learning disability, or coping with a family member who has one of these ailments. If one were to volunteer for NETC, they would be placed in a pre-school classroom with children who have physical, occupational, behavioral, and learning disabilities. These children have the opportunity to meet with therapists and specialists who help them with their disabilities through a stable classroom setting, which these children need. The center is full of therapists and specialists who are able to assist both the children and the parents, thus creating a socially just union.
When having the opportunity to work one on one with these children, a person gains a general understanding of what these children cope with as well as what their parents concerns are while raising children with disabilities. At NETC, the teachers and aides make the children feel as if they were completely normal with no ailments, which creates for a very pleasant environment for all of those involved. If NETC did not exist, these children and their parents would have to seek other means of help, and that would create problems dealing with access and possibly the quality of services they may receive. These professionals are trained to work with children that have disabilities, and all of the participants benefit and are able to learn and mature while engaged in a classroom setting.
After asking Sharon Eaton, teacher of classroom four, what the children value from this center, she replied by answering, ” They learn how to interact with other children and get the necessary therapy they need in order to grow and mature.” It is clear that this center provides the access and quality of healthcare that the community needs. In order to meet the standards of what the citizens deserve, it takes a group of individuals working together in a safe and structured environment in order to provide healthy situations. Eaton also stated that the center provides education to children with disabilities while also offering the support and advice that their parents are seeking. Between therapists and social workers offering support and advice, one must also observe the perspective from the outside.
From the outside looking in, this center may appear only as a sophisticated pre-school environment, however, NETC provides accessible healthcare and a high quality environment and services rendered to the community. Take for instance the dental offices the center has inside the building. This center is created for those whom are either afraid to go to the dentist or are handicapped and unable to attend a normal dentists office. This service allows for certain individuals to seek the dental hygiene that every community member deserves. As stated in the United Nations Decree, every citizen deserves the right and access to quality healthcare. It is clear that Niagara Educational Treatment Center is doing its job in order to provide numerous healthcare opportunities to the community.
Aside from teachers in the pre-school classrooms, there are aides whom help to assist with the children as well as the lessons provided to the children on a daily basis. When interviewing Lisa Adams, an aide in classroom four, she said, “The best part about working here at NETC is working with the children and leaving a lasting impression on these children’s’ lives.” The people who work at NETC take the time to interact with the children and create for a stable environment in which the children are able to learn and enjoy the time they spend while at school. If it weren’t for all of the professionals at NETC, these children would go unnoticed and would not have the ability to improve themselves.
Equal access, great quality, and social justice are parts of a good healthcare system. Even if the healthcare system as a whole in America needs improvement, at least in the Niagara Falls area, NETC is making an improvement and providing a great service to the community. Many times the community overlooks agencies such as these; however, sometimes these places provide some of the most amazing services to people with disabilities and their families. All in all, NETC provides great access and quality healthcare to all of the patrons of the Niagara Falls community.
