So, shoe boxes are the perfect material to use to build a doll house. This doll house eyes especially great for a little girl with a small bedroom. It is meant to be mounted on the wall near the ground for easy play!
Each show box will be one room in the doll house. So, you will need at least 4 shoe boxes for 2 room downstairs and 2 upstairs. You of course can make this doll house as large as you want.
Take the base of the shoe boxes and wrap them in wrapping paper or tissue paper.
You want to wrap the outside of the shoe boxes and fold the paper inside just to cover the front edges.
You can use some spray adhesive to hold the wrapping paper on if you want.
Do this on all the shoe boxes.
Now, use scrap book paper, fun foam, felt, or even card stock to cut out walls, floors, and ceilings to decorate each room. Measure your shoe box insides and cut out the pieces to the appropriate size.
You can glue the floors, walls, and ceiling inside with glue, spray adhesive or doublesided tape.
Tip: If you want windows in the doll house cut them out before you wrap the boxes. Once wrapped use the exacto knife to cut away the openings you made.
Now, lay out your shoe boxes on the floor side by side and top by bottom to lay out your doll house shape. Now, measure HW wide this isle and how tall.
Cut out a piece of cardboard to this size.
Use an exacto knife to cut a small slit in the inside corner of each shoe box on the floor of the box.
Now, lay your shoe boxes on the cardboard and mark where the holes are in each box on the card board. Cut slits in the cardboard than align with these.
You can insert the metal office supply butter fly tabs through the holes, then open the backs to hold the shoe boxes in place.
Now, cut out two rectangle piece of cardboard that are as wide and your shoe box and long enough to make a pitched roof. Wrap these in more wrapping paper or even scrapbook paper all the way around.
They can be glued into place with hot glue or taped into place on top of the doll house.
To and you doll house you have a few options. You can use push pins on the inside to fasten it to the wall. Tacks are also a great option. You can also glue some small picture hanging hooks on the back and hang the Shoe Box Doll House that way!
Now, take the time to cut out more paper details and glue them in place as well. You can make rugs, curtains, lamps, and more!
