Simpsons-Based Ride Rumored to Be Replacing the Back to the Future Ride at Universal Theme Park in Orlando

There probably isn’t a Simpsons fan alive who doesn’t positively drool over the prospect of a Simpsons theme park opening at some point. While that possibility certainly seems to be years and years away from every being realized if at all. Rumors are swirling that a move in that direction may be taking place at Universal Studios Theme Park in Orlando.

Fans of the Back to the Future ride may be the only ones not thrilled by the possibility that it will be replaced sometimes in 2007 a virtual ride tentatively titled Simpsons: Sprint Through Springfield. Lending further credence to this rumor is that admission that the Back to the Future ride is a done deal and could shut down as early as October 1.

Of course, the 2007 date for a Simpsons ride would make a lot of sense because next year will also see the release of the long-awaited feature film version of the venerable show. Simpsons: Sprint Through Springfield is rumored to use the Imax format that Back to the Future used and would be essentially the same kind of attraction. Of course, this is all very speculative and there have also been rumors that Back to the Future will be replaced by a Fast and the Furious ride.

Let’s hope not.
