Small Town USA: Easton

Easton, Massachusetts is located just twenty miles south of Boston. To get there you have to get onto Route 24 South and take the only exit that says “ROUTE 106, Mansfield”. Route 106 goes right through Easton. In fact, it takes you right to what is called “five corners”.

In Easton, here are a list of some of the best places to go:

Eating: 1. Catering by Claudia, located on route 138, at 420 Turnpike Street. This little cafe’ has daily homemade soups and homemade specials. They are wonderful! The help is friendly, the prices are reasonable, and the menu is dynamic. When you’re there, ask to meet “Claudia”, she’s there every day. If you have your own recipe idea and you want her to try it, talk to her. Her recipe for white chili won first place in the annual Easton Harvest Fair.

2. Blackthorne Tavern, located at 425 Turnpike St. This Irish bar is great for live music and beer selection. The help is friendly and fast. The live music is pleasantly surrounded by a warm cozzy fireplace. It was recently bought by the Brennan family from long time owner, John O’Connor. The changes have been subtle, but good ones.

3. Porticello, located at 305 Turnpike St. This Italian restaurant is known for its wonderful dinner specials and martini bar. Make sure to dress appropriately. This place is good for those people who want to go out for the night and feel like they are going first class, but without first class prices.

Things you might not have known:

1. The high school is called “Oliver Ames”, named after the person who founded the town in 1725. His family is famous for providing shovels to the civil war efforts.
2. They are building a new high school which will be twice the size of it’s original.
3. Average home price is $325,000
4. Town is expanding year after year. This year a brand new shopping complex is close to completion on route 106 which will include TJ Max.
5. The Oak Ames Library is one of the oldest in the state.
