Spirit of Chicago Boat Cruise Chicago
Nestled on the outskirts of Chicago’s Navy Pier, The Spirit of Chicago, one of the many cruising boats sits ideally every week and sails hundreds of cruising enthusiasts as they enjoy the beautiful sights. The boat is a very casual atmosphere that is accessible to single and family-oriented passengers. Depending on passengers preferences, they can take a lunch, mid-day or evening cruise. Each cruise has it’s own set of benefits such as set menu items, live music and cash bar service.
Last Friday, I was invited by two family members to the Hirsch High School’s Twenty-Fifth High School Reunion, which was on the Spirit of Chicago’s second level. As we slowly boarded the boat, had our identification checked, we settled on the interior of the deck, chose a seat that was near a window and were able to really enjoy the Moonlight Cruise. Sheree and Kimberly are both graduates from the school and as they greeted their former classmates, got caught up on personal and professional achievements, I took in the sights of Chicago. Although the weather was not the best for this particular’s event, we were able to enjoy the live music provided by a deejay and nibble on the menu, which consisted of hot wings, meat balls in marinara sauce, small pizza puffs, fresh broccoli, cauliflower and carrots with tangy spirit dip, cheese and crackers, we truly enjoyed the easy flow of the night. There was ample food to feed everyone on our level and I did get a chance to nibble on seconds.
The set up of the second level was truly great. We were able to find our seats, even though there was a large crowd of people streaming into our level and the upper levels. There are plenty of seats, so that was not a problem. Staff was nice to us all, and provided clear instructions on how to purchase drink tickets, as there was a cash bar. There were posted notes about when drink sales were to end and also very clear lines where you could get your drink of choice. Prices of the drinks were a modest $5.00 for beers and light wine drinks, and mixed drinks were $10.00 (use of two drink tickets together). There was a separate line to get your drink ticket, and of course, two lines to order and receive your drinks.
The ample space where the dance floor was located, gave passengers enough space to dance and enjoy the live entertainment. On this night, the music was provided by a former co-worker of mine’s, Fabian, who spinned the perfect music, of old Rhythm and Blues, contemporary urban music, and music of the late 70’s and 80’s, taking us down memory lane. Passengers on this night, enjoyed the music and everyone got up to do their boogie on the ‘Cha Cha’ slide.
So, if you are ever in the mood to see the sights of the city, and enjoy a nice meal on the seas, I would highly recommend the Spirit of Chicago as a choice.
