Spring Break Ideas for California College Students
The funny thing is that most students have been students for so long that when they do get that time off from school work, they don’t know what to do with themselves. This leaves most students to take the short trip back to mom and dad’s house to watch spring break MTV-style and wonder why they’re not on a beach somewhere instead of home on the couch. Don’t let this be you. With spring break less than a week away, it’s a little late to attend or sign up for the wet T-shirt contest at the MTV house, but there are still plans you can make to ensure that you will have a fun and worthwhile break.
Most people think you need to be somewhere warm to enjoy spring break. Not true. With Lake Tahoe less then two hours away, spending the day snowboarding or skiing is a great way to take advantage of the slowly melting snow season. Another incentive is that ski resorts give great discounts to students. Squaw Valley resort is running a spring break special for students: Tuesday through Thursday, students can ski or ride all day for $39, with a printed out coupon from their Web site (www.squaw.com) and a student identification card.
Now, if you’re one of those people who can’t even imagine not getting a tan during spring break and do feel like going somewhere warm, Sacramento is relatively close to many great beaches, such as Stinson Beach. The great thing about laying on the beach at Stinson is that it gives you the feel you’re far away from Sacramento when really it’s a mere two hours away. The only difference you’ll notice from not being in somewhere like Cancun is that there won’t be that loud drunk girl yelling in the background. This makes Stinson a close second and in some ways a step ahead of any of the typical spring break beach locations that the producers of Girl’s Gone Wild try so hard to get young college girls to visit.
And if you need to get as far away from Sac State as possible in order to feel like you’re on spring break, there is the road trip idea. So, if you have a car, get some friends together and hit the road. Camping is a great way to save money on road trips. National Park campsites tend to be cheaper and more scenic. All you need to do is make a reservation at a camp site and step out of the Sacramento county lines. If you can’t leave Sacramento because of work, you can still make your spring break enjoyable by making the most out of the week off. You can barbecue with your close friends, hang out by the pool or just relax.
Whatever you choose to do during your week off, enjoy it because life’s too short to not make the most out of everything and when we get back it’s a long stretch to summer.
