Spring Cleaning Checklist for Your Home

Spring has sprung and the weather is finally getting warmer. You know what that means: spring cleaning time. Not sure where to start and what to do to get your home in tip top shape. Here are some ideas to help guide you through your spring cleaning checklist.

HOME MAINTENANCE
Check for any leaks or signs of water in the basement, attic, and garage. With all the melting snow and the rain showers you want to make sure that you have nothing leaking in the house.
Open the windows or vents in the basement and the attic to ventilate.
Inspect the caulking around the tubs and showers in the home and recaulk if necessary.
Have your central air conditioning unit inspected.
Check the roof for any needed repairs. Secure any loose shingles.
Check the outside of your home. Do you need to paint or do you see any decay or loose siding.
Replace the batteries in your smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector.
Clean your outdoor gas grill and make sure that it is in working condition.

CLEANING
Wash the windows inside and out.
Clean scuff marks, handprints and any other marks off the walls.
Wipe down the cabinets in the kitchen.
Clean the baseboards.
Polish the woodwork.
Vacuum your refrigerator coils and clean out the inside of the fridge. Throw away anything that is spoiled or you know that you will not eat anytime soon.
Rent or buy a carpet cleaner and clean the carpets in the house.
Clean curtains or dust the blinds.
Wash all winter quilts and blankets and store away until the fall.
Replace your heavier sheets on the bed with lightweight ones.
Clean out your garage. If you have anything you do not want, put aside to sell at a garage sale or give to a charity.
Turn your mattress.
Dust all bookshelves and regular shelves thoroughly. Take everything off and dust the entire thing and them put items back. Don’t just dust around the items.
Get the whole family involved. Take a weekend and have your children clean out their room. Get rid of anything that they do not want anymore.
Go through your children’s clothing to see what fits them and what does not. Give to charity anything that they have outgrown or put away for the next child.
Clean or change the furnace air filter.
Clean the ceiling fans and light fixtures. Wipe the bulbs and replace any nonworking bulbs.
