St. Norbert College: Unique Private School in Northeast Wisconsin

Along the banks of the Fox River in the city of DePere, there is a great institution of higher learning that rivals the public education given by the local public university. St. Norbert College, founded in October of 1898, is a private Catholic liberal arts college that is associated with the Norbertine order of Catholic priests. St. Norbert’s strong academic programs, surprisingly active campus life, and unique opportunities for students make the price of tuition well worth the four plus years of college.

The academic requirements for St. Norbert College are fairly rigorous, though not prohibitive for above average students (most from Wisconsin and Midwestern states). The ACT average of incoming students is 24 and a quarter of students coming into the college are in the top 10 percent of their high school graduating classes. Most students, new or returning, live on or near campus and the nearly 2,000 students are treated to great advising and residential staffs. The college has a four-year graduation guarantee, which allows for a more concentrated academic program to keep students on track to their goal. The residence halls, which host the Green Bay Packers during their training camp, provide a great home-like feel for St. Norbert students and a great place to study and meet new people. Over sixty eight student organizations give all kinds of opportunities for students to get involved in their school and their community. Overall, the academic and extracurricular programs for St. Norbert College give the students plenty to do in their brief time at the school.

St. Norbert College has over forty academic programs, including Masters programs in theology and education. The college has a Peace Corps Prepatory program, one of only seven in the nation, which gets potential Peace Corps volunteers ready for their trips abroad. As well, the college has strong relations with universities abroad and their study abroad program is growing in size and reputation. The 14-to-1 student to teacher ration and the fact that the average class size is twenty students shows that the college is dedicated to teaming their great faculty with their talented students in a more hands on approach to education.

The Green Knights hockey and football teams, along with their baseball and softball teams, provide opportunities to watch great, competitive teams at the Division III level for students and community members alike. The hockey team especially is nationally renowned and is followed closely by local media as a perennial power in Division III. As well, the student body has a beautiful new student center, a great student union, and an events center on campus that has featured music acts like Five for Fighting in the past. The community also has access to the amenities of St. Norbert College, with organizations using the beautiful Beamis Conference Center for events and community members are able to use the student-run Kress Inn on campus. The St. Norbert College campus is a beautiful place to learn and to grown and is a great private college for those looking for unique opportunities in their college years.
