St. Patrick’s Day Events in Mastic, Shirley & Moriches

The Mastic/Shirley/Moriches Community Library is hosting a show entitled, “A Quiet Ciele in Honor of St. Patrick’s Day” at the library on Sunday, March 12, from 2 PM to 3:30 PM. Registration begins at the library on February 26. This is a family program celebrating Celtic heritage with a mix of traditional 18th century Irish, Scottish and Welsh folk music along with stories and Gaelic wit.

Another program available at the Community Library is called “Luck of the Irish” and is geared for children in grades 4 through 6. The children will whip up a special St. Patrick’s Day brew and paint a lovely suncatcher to take home. The program will take place in Room A on Wednesday, March 15, from 4 PM to 4:45 PM. Registration starts on March 1 and can be done through the Community Library either in person, on the telephone or through the web site.

On Friday, March 3, there will be a cocktail party, through the Chamber of Commerce, at the Rock Hill Country Club in Manorville from 7 PM to 9 PM. The proceeds will go towards funding the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Center Moriches.

The annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade will take place on Sunday, March 19, at 2 PM, in the heart of downtown Center Moriches. The Parade is always an event filled with festivities, fun and Irish laughter. The Honorary Grand Marshall this year will be Clayton Huey, the former Superintendent of the Center Moriches School District. Local merchants will be involved and some will have special sales and displays available.

A local musical event, entitled “Irish Sopranos”, is taking place at the Staller Center for the Arts at Stony Brook University on March 17 at 8 PM. Tickets are $35 each and you can get additional information about the show by calling (631) 632-2787.

Finally, if you are looking for a good Irish pub, there is Buckley’s Inn Between at 139 Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays, telephone (631) 728-7197. Unfortunately, there was a fire last year at Buckley’s Irish Pub in Center Moriches and this location has not yet been reopened. Another local Irish watering hole to check out for fun, food and festivities is Fatty McGee’s Bar & Grill, located at 138 Connetquot Avenue, East Islip, telephone (631) 581-9868.

Find the Irish or the Iwish inside you and enjoy at little Celtic charm – top of the mornin’ to ya!
