Star Jones Has FINALLY Left The View! What’s Next?
It was in its second week of airing, and I had requested tickets. Back then I was all about the “girl power” and “women journalists rule” portion of my life. I had loved Meredith Viera on Turning Point, and as a young girl knowing that I wanted to have a career in journalism, both she and Barbara Walters had really blazed a trail.
Let me tell you about my View experience, at the age of 15.
The studio seemed small with very few audience chairs. I made the two people I was going with get to the studio in Manhattan about one hour early. I wanted the best seats in the house. As we began to file in, I got the seats exactly where I wanted them: right up front. I had a perfect sight-line to that infamous “coffee table” on stage. I was thrilled.
The show went on, guests like Susan Powter came out, and someone else was there too. I can’t say I watched the show as much as I was enthralled with how Meredith Vieira and Barbara Walters prepared themselves. During breaks they would chat with the audience from the stage, smile and send out a few waves.
When the show was over, Meredith Vieira came over to me. I was scared out of my mind. She introduced herself to me, and asked some information about myself-she seemed thrilled to meet me. I think I was way more thrilled to meet her. She wrote the nicest letter to me on the little yellow pad I had brought to the city with me. She also was gracious enough to take two pictures with me. One with just she and I, the other with myself, Meredith and Joy Behar (who was as friendly and funny as could be).
They wanted Star Jones to come out for the picture, but she wouldn’t. Behar and Vieira were making efforts to speak with the fans. They spoke to me for about 45 minutes. Star Jones was nowhere to be seen.
Now don’t go emailing me, telling me that maybe she was busy, so on and so forth. I have been to live tapings of The View eight times, and not ONCE has Star Jones come out to meet the fans. She did not even speak to us. All the other co-hosts did.
Maybe Jones leaving The View is the best thing to happen to the show. I think Star Jones took on this “I’m larger than life” attitude. She felt she was holier than though, but when it came down to brass tax, she was no more Christian than criminal locked up for rape and murder of a child.
Harsh? Yes. Truthful? You bet.
But who should replace Star Jones? There have been talks of Gayle King, Kathie Lee Gifford, even Nancy Grace. These are all women that could hold their own in the daytime realm. Honestly though, do you want to see just another talking head, or do you want to see someone real-someone who has not been a newscaster or has ulterior motives? There needs to be someone fresh and edgy on The View. Someone who is young, but can stand their ground with the best of them. There needs to be someone who is the anti-Star Jones.
Look no further. Like Hillary Clinton running for the White House in 2008, I am announcing my candidacy for the fifth and final co-host spot on The View.
My qualifications? Alright, so I do have a bachelor’s in journalism. I do have over ten years of experience doing print journalism for various publications. Does that make me boring? NO WAY!! I think I am just what the few needs, a 24 year old ball of fire! If you want my real resume, just email me-I’ll give it to you. No lobbyists or Jack Abramoffs here. No big cigarette companies backing me. In fact, the only person really backing me is my mother-and she thinks I’m dreaming. Well, maybe Associated Content will take the plunge into my campaign.
So tell ABC you want someone REAL. Tell ABC you want ME. I’m Katie Raymond, and I’ve approved this message.
