Stone Mountain Park Visitors’ Guide

Stone Mountain Park is home to the world’s largest exposed piece of granite, referred to as simply Stone Mountain. There are three leaders of the Civil War Confederacy carved into the giant monolith; Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, and Stonewall Jackson. Other than the sky lifts up the mountain and photo opportunities of a site that you’ll never fully appreciate till you see it, Stone Mountain has many things for the average tourist.

Events are often scheduled there, like the nightly summer laser light show that has been going on for the last 20 years. It is the world’s largest laser light show and ends with fireworks and flame cannons. Between the lights and the music, it is a great ending to your Stone Mountain trip.

Other activities include a rarely seen covered bridge, golf courses, museums, and children’s activities. Kids enjoy rope nets, slides, and mazes. Look for the kids activities to be houses in the Great Barn. For the more grown up, there is the Scarlett O’Hara riverboat cruises and the 5 mile scenic rail trip on the Stone Mountain Scenic Railroad. The famous sky lifts make for a great view of Atlanta and the Appalachian Mountains.
