Streak Free Windows in Less Time

As spring approaches, thoughts of warm, sunny days come to mind. But thoughts of yard work, extra house work and other spring related chores also come to mind. However, spring chores and spring cleaning does not have to be difficult. With a few simple tips and some techniques to follow, you can turn your spring tasks into an enjoyable or at least somewhat enjoyable experience.

This particular article will give you some simple and easy to follow tips for cleaning the interior and exterior of the windows on your home. Window cleaning may seem simple, but there are always several things that make the task more difficult than need be.

First, you must gather the supplies need for the job. A good class cleaner, preferably of the foaming variety, a step stool, quality paper towel, a long handled squeegee, a garden hose attached to outdoor water supply, and a sponge should be all that is needed to do the job right.

Start by cleaning the interior of all of the windows. When cleaning the interior, spray the glass cleaner on the window, take a few sheets of paper towel and thoroughly wipe down the window, then you a few sheets of fresh paper towel to dry the window. During the drying process, use horizontal strokes only. This will enable you to tell which side of the window has streaks left on it when you complete the job. The interior is the easy part, now on to the exterior.

For the exterior, begin by removing the screens. These usually pop right out with some gentle pressure applied upwards. With the screens out, set them on a flat surface and spray them down with the garden hose. Scrub the screens down with the sponge and rinse. Turn the screens over and repeat on the other side. Now lay the screens in a vertical position to allow them to dry.

Next, spray the exterior of the windows thoroughly with a garden hose. Be sure to spray the channels that the windows sit in and to remove any debris from the drain slots that are located at the bottom of the window frame.

Now you can spray down the class with the foaming glass cleaner. Use the same procedure as you did for the interior of the windows. However, this time when you dry the window, dry only with vertical strokes.

Now that you have completed cleaning the windows, turn your attention to looking for streaks on the window. If the streaks are oriented in a vertical manner, you know that they are on the exterior side of the window. If the streaks are oriented in the horizontal manner, you know that they are located on the interior side of the window.

To remove streaks on the interior, simply buff the area with streaks using a fresh paper towel. Buff gently until the streak disappears.

If the streaks are on the exterior side, I recommend a light spray with the garden hose over the entire surface of the window, followed by removal of the water with the squeegee. This squeegee method nearly guarantees streak free results.

Once you are satisfied with the appearance of your windows, you can replace the screens and you are done.

Spring chores do not have to be as dreaded as they usually are. Most spring chores give you a chance to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather and the results of you cleaning and chores speak for themselves.
