The Fort Worth Zoo has a wild summer provided for participants of Summer Zoo Camp and Zoo Careers Camp for ages 3 and 4 and those entering kindergarten through sixth grade. Three and four-year-olds must be toilet-trained. In the Endangered Species: Wild Wonders camp kids learn about the cheetah, western lowland gorilla, and black rhino. In Animal Detectives: Meet the Beast they learn about the Asian elephant, hippo, and African lion and in the Places in Africa: On Safari the African dwarf crocodile, chimpanzee, and meerkat are featured. In African Art: Art Smart they learn about Grant’s zebra, flamingo, and the Gaboon viper and in Places in Africa: Awesome Africa the reticulated giraffe is featured among others. In African Art” Critters on Canvas children learn about the hippo, Madagascan tomato frog, and the mandrill are the featured animals. In Endangered Species: Species Survivors the rhino, black and white colobus monkey, and cheetah are studied. This year’s camp will be held May 30th through July 28th.

Camp Carter YMCA provides quality outdoor experience that enhances people’s relationships with themselves, others, and the world around them. Camp Carter had a winter camp with paper bag skits, pancake breakfast, white elephant gift exchange, night climb, and something called “The Big X.” One and two-week camp sessions are available. Activities offered include sailing, swimming, archery, journalism, Challenge course (ages ten and up), arts & crafts, horseback riding, biking, and outdoor living skills among others. Since 1989 the Aquatic Sciences Adventure Summer Camp has given boys and girls ages 9-15 opportunities to learn the wonders of aquatic biology and water chemistry in a university setting and experience exciting recreational activities. Camps are offered in two formats and are co-ed. The camp is located at the Edwards Aquifer Research and Data Center at Texas State University in San Marco. Teachers are needed to assist with the camp. Attendees get to ride in a glass bottom boat and go tubing in the San Marcos River as well as scuba diving and snorkeling among other activities. For preschool children the summer offers a fantastic journey in the form of The Children’s Courtyard with locations through the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Contemporary Dance Fort Worth will offer summer camps and summer classes at the company’s new studios at Orchestra Hall in southwest Fort Worth. At Curragh Equestrian Center overnight and day summer camps are offered for ages 7-18 with all experience levels welcome. Daily lessons, lectures, and trail rides with supervision are available. The camp is at 5595 Ben Day Murrin Road in Fort Worth and the phone number is 817-443-3777. The Center is a full-service boarding and training facility and is certified under the standards of certified British Horse Society instructors and management. The first weekly session will start June 2nd. Campers can bring their own horse but it costs extra. Space is limited so enrollment early is advised.
