When most people hear the words yeast infections they tend to think of a women. But did you know that it is possible for men to get yeast infections? It is not very common but it is something that can happen. If it does men should know how to identify, the problem and treat it. Men usually harbor yeast infections in their urethra, which is a canal through which their urine passes within the penis. The symptoms of yeast infections in men are usually very minimal.

If the yeast infection gets bad however you may begin to notice that the outside of the penis is red, scaly and usually itches. In men who are uncircumcised a yeast infection occurs under the foreskin, and around the head of the penis. What will happen as time continues to pass is that it can lead to inflammation and the inability to retract the foreskin.

In order to treat a male yeast infection you will need to use an anti fungal medicine. Many of these can be over the counter creams. But you will want to take the time and see your doctor if you suspect that you have a yeast infection. If your doctor feels that it is a very bad infection they may prescribe an oral medication. You will also have to abstain from having any type of sex while you have a yeast infection.

This will help to insure that you do not get another infection. Most men usually get a yeast infection from a women during intercourse. A yeast infection while very uncomfortable does not really cause any serious health risks. The best way for men to make sure that they do not get a yeast infection is to have protected sex all the time. Or you can make sure that you wife has a yearly physical to make sure that she does not have a yeast infection.

Although this is not a serious condition, you should make sure that you take the time to know what some of the symptoms are. I do want to stress the point that if you are unsure you should really take the time and talk with your doctor.
