Syracuse, New York’s Meals on Wheels Program

This area includes Nedrow, Layfayette, Tully, and the Onondaga Reservation. For a detailed list of other cities, please visit the Meals on Wheels web page at http://www.meals.org/.
The Wheels on Meals program serves nutritious meals to homebound patients. These patients are often unable to prepare or shop for their own food. Most of the individuals can care for themselves and live one their own; however, they may not be able to prepare meals and that is where Meals on Wheels comes in. This program is popular among residents because it offers these meals at the lowest amount of money possible and can help keep elderly individuals out of nursing homes.
The program generally will send out two meals to each recipient. At the organized delivery time, a hot meal for lunch will be served and a cold meal will be dropped off for dinnertime. If you are interested in obtaining the program, you should call and speak to a worker. Once you are qualified and your personal information is acquired and processed, you could be getting meals in little as one week.
The cost for each meal generally starts out at around $1.50; however, it can slightly increase. If you are over sixty years of age, you are entitled to use Meals on Wheels, no matter what your income is. Disabled individuals who are eighteen years and up and in the low income range, are also able to use the services offered by Meals on Wheels. Most of the participations are long-term users of the program; however, Meals on Wheels will also offer temporary services to seniors who are recovering from injuries or surgery.
The Meals on Wheels Program is made possibly by volunteers and donations. If you are interested in volunteering, you can become a delivery driver, help to prepare the meals and serve them.
