Take a Romantic Trip to Yachats, Oregon for This Valentine’s Day

Yachats (pronounced Ya-hots) is located on the central Oregon coast between Newport to the north, and Florence to the south. It’s charm is apparent as soon as you come into town, and carries through the entire village. Quaint shops and eateries mix with resorts and fine dining.

The beach area is dramatic, a sandy crescent lying in the shadow of Cape Perpetua. The drive along the south side of the main beach is inspiring, with waves crashing against rock. To the north, Smelt Sands gives the beachcomber ample opportunity for exploration.

Cape Perpetua Scenic area immediately to the south of town offers the hiker in you many trails to walk upon with your significant other. 26 miles of hiking trails and one 6 mile bike trail can keep you both busy for awhile. The Devil’s Churn area gives views that might leave you breathless. The first time I hiked down the trail to the bottom of the Chasm neither one of us wanted to leave. The old growth coastal rain forest is sufficiently ancient in nature to give one pause.

14 miles to the south, you can find the Heceta Head Lighthouse. Personally, I think it is one of the best. It is so picturesque that it could be a postcard. Of course, it is on many postcards. There are events scheduled throughout the year. Call 541-547-4227 to see what is happening when you are in the area.

For the Valentine, there is a vow renewal ceremony in the Old Log Cabin Church on February 14th. Call 541-547-3976 for more info. What a romantic place to renew your commitment to the one you love.

All in all, Yachats is a wonderful place to be alone with your special Valentine. In the majestic beauty that is the Oregon coast, it would be impossible to pick out a single favorite. Yachats is one of mine. For more information, see yachats.org
