Okay, you have finally mowed the lawn and it looks great. Now what? What are some tips to help maintain a nice looking lawn?

Prior to mowing your lame, conduct a walk through around the perimeter of your yards. Pick up any big rocks of sticks that may have “wandered” into your yard. Mow your grass so that it is approximately one inch high.

Fertilize your lawn. Go ahead and spread some around your yard after the chance of freezing has past and prior to a good rain if you are able. If rain is not on your forecast, simply spray the fertilizer down at night and then water until the lawn is good and soaked. Do not over do the fertilizer- once in the spring and summer months will suffice for the novice lawn care maintenance provider. Too much fertilizer can result in an overgrowth leading to fungi growth.

Control weed growth. A vital hint to remember is that grass and weed killer does as it states and kills grass. By mowing once weekly, a basic weed control is being utilized.

Mowing-oh, the physical labor of pushing a lawn mower can be the most complicated part of lawn care that people do not get right. What? How can there be a wrong way to mow? People have a tendency to set the lawn mower to the lowest setting, thereby assuring the best cut. Not always. In fact, this can lead to thin and dying grass- ultimately resulting in no grass at all. Easy to care for then, but not the point of this article.

Okay, so by now you have achieved the perfect lawn- you have not? What are you waiting around for then? I am providing tips here after all. Water your lawn. Experts will tell you automated watering systems are the ideal. However, I am not an expert and I am going to say, water is a precious commodity so make it count. Water your lawn at night when water has to best chance to absorb into the soil as opposed to daylight hours where it mostly just evaporates. Water twice a week- all you really need.

Over watering is not beneficial to your lawn. If you have a sprinkler, do not be negligent in moving it around your yard so that the entire lawn receives a drink. Please make sure you are not watering the street as well, as the street and driveways do not get thirsty. Me, I go outside at ten at night twice a week and water with a hose with the nozzle set to shower for thirty minutes and walk back and forth spraying. Experts, say the best time to water is early morning, but I am a night person. Do what works best for you. Early morning or late evening,

Leave the grass clippings in the lawn. Not only does this add extra moisture, it grass clippings are a weed deterrent.
