The Best Beaches in Washington
Pacific Beach: Starting in the south region, Pacific Beach is a fabulous beach over looking the ocean. Complete with a military housing complex that has been renovated into a resort town, this beach has gorgeous views and is one of the few beaches in Washington where the water is warm enough to swim in if that’s your thing.
Long Beach: Long Beach is on the peninsula and comes complete with lighthouses, old military settlements, clam digging, hiking, wildlife refuges, beach drives, museums, and for you history buffs this is the exact site where Lewis and Clark’s journey west concluded and they realized the dream that President Jefferson had for them.
Beach At Forks, WA: Across a ferry from Seattle is a small town called Forks. Almost completely cut off from the rest of the state, this is not a small town that you are going to stumble upon. You’re going to have to seek this one out but with all that this place has to offer, it can be more than worth it. Washington is famous for it’s whale watching and this is a great place to do it as the town is right along the migratory paths of the beautiful Grey Whales.
Owen Beach: Nestled in the Point Defiance Park, Owen Beach is one of my favorites despite it’s heavy traffic from the city. More of a rocky beach, this is a great place to go for a family picnic and watch the tide come in. Perfect for a day out with it being right down the road from Tacoma’s harbor restaurants, Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium and famous Point Defiance Rose Garden.
Alki Beach: Located in West Seattle, this is another city beach that is still just as beautiful when the sun is hitting it. Tends to have lots of traffic, especially in the summer, but if you can find a cool day to just walk along the sandy shores you’ll be treated to an incredible sight once the sun starts to dip over the edge of the world.
Washington has some of the beautiful beaches on the west coast and when you add in all of the added bonuses that this state has to offer including clam digging, whale watching and our wildlife, it makes for an incredible treat that is sure to last a lifetime in your memories.
