The Best Beaches on the Seacoast of New Hampshire

With summer just around the corner, you can be sure that people will be flocking to the beach and spending plenty of time soaking up the sun and playing in the surf. There are plenty of beaches to choose from, but the Seacoast of New Hampshire is the preeminent place to visit during the summer for great beaches. With a 13.5 stretch of coastline, there are a number of options to choose from when you decide to head out.

The first place you should check out is North Beach in Hampton. North Beach is on the main stretch of beach road known as Route 1-A, and runs throughout most of Hampton. It’s got plenty of sand and room for those few thousand, that’s right THOUSAND, beachgoers that come for holidays like the 4th of July. North Beach is well known throughout New England, and people from all over flock here. It’s a great place to spend some time with the family, and you’ll see people from as far away as Quebec enjoying the weather. North Beach does have parking meters, and the meter maids are adamant about tickets, so get there early and load up your timer. If you plan on heading down there for a weekend or on a really nice day, plan on jockeying with a number of other people for good parking spots as it gets crowded very quickly. North Beach is the summer destination, so head over there the next time the weather gets nice.

If you are looking for a beach that is a little more quiet and secluded, the head down Route 1-A just a few miles and stop In Rye Beach. Rye Beach is a wealthy and beautiful town filled with beaches that the residents have made into a great beach community. There are a number of beaches here that are small and not crowded yet still offer plenty of space and sand. The first beach that you should visit is Rye on the Rocks. This beach is best known as being the home to one of the best surf breaks in New England, but when the surf is small, it’s quiet and perfect for lounging. There isn’t much sand here, but there are plenty of rocks for the young ones to search for crabs and other sea-life. The great thing about this beach is that for some reason the water is always a little warmer then other beaches. It’s also home to a number of fish, so grab your pole and do some shore casting where you can catch anything from stripped bass to pollack.

The best beach in the Seacoast is undoubtedly Jenness Beach in Rye Beach down the road from Rye on the Rocks. Jenness is the perfect mix of rocks and sand, and the close proximity to Portsmouth and Hampton gives people from all over the opportunity to visit this great beach. Parking is free, and you can put your car anywhere on the road. There is a great little shop just across the road (Jenness also lies right on Route 1-A) where you can get ice cream or any other supplies you might need after spending a few hours in the sun. Although Jenness can get a little crowded on the best beach days, there is plenty of space to find where you can get away from the mob and have some privacy.
