The Best Homemade Grout Cleaner for a Bathroom Floor
Grouted ceramic tile is highly desirable in a bathroom. It is far more practical than carpeting, and it looks much more stylish than linoleum. However, it does not come without care requirements. Tiles can crack and the filler in between them eventually ends up looking dark and dirty. If it is not sealed every couple of years, stains will penetrate the surface. It can be difficult to clean, but only if you are doing it the hard way. Store-bought products do not always work as promised, and they can be very expensive. For the best homemade grout cleaner you will need 1 ½ cups of baking soda and ½ cup of liquid bleach. If your bathroom is small, cut the amounts in half. You will also need an old manual toothbrush, a bucket of warm water and a soft clean rag. You might also want a foam pad or thick material to kneel on. Cleaning Procedure
Begin by mixing the bleach and baking soda with the handle end of the toothbrush. It will form a thick paste. If it seems too thin, just add a little more baking soda about a tablespoon at a time. Apply it to the grout using the bristle end of the toothbrush. Work on a three-foot square area at a time, and lightly scrub it as you go. Allow it to sit for approximately fifteen minutes before wiping it away with a clean damp rag. You will not believe the difference!
Spectacular Results
I cleaned the filler in between my sister’s powder room tiles from the 1950’s, and the results were nothing short of spectacular.
